Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson is confident she has a belting voice in her - even if she hasn't discovered it quite yet...

She laughs, “I’ve never sung in front of an audience before unless you count singing karaoke!"

However, we're sure the sexy actress and glamour model who plays Lisa Hunter in the Chester-based soap will impress fans with her hidden talents.

Gemma has been a Hollyoaks regular for five years and now appears in Channel 4’s spin-off series Hollyoaks: In The City alongside fellow Soapstar Superstar contestant Leon Lopez.

This will be Gemma's chance to break out of the soap world and she says, "I’m looking forward to my friends and family coming to watch the show as they appreciate the fact that I’m getting the opportunity to show off my singing talent.

"I’m also looking forward to people seeing me as Gemma rather than Lisa Hunter."

She admits she's never sung in public before, so you'd think Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson (Lisa Hunter) might be feeling a little nervous about her first live performance to the nation tonight in ITV's Soapstar Superstar.

But she's taking it all in her stride. She tells me: "I'm probably one of the only contestants who has never sung in public before. The only time I sing is when I'm in the shower.

"But I'm not that nervous. I have asked to sing in the first half of the show, though, so I can get it over with!"

The Bury-based beauty has been rehearsing hard for the show, and at least it's been keeping her mind off her break-up from footballer boyfriend, Charlton striker Marcus Bent.

She tells me: "I was only seeing him twice a month because he had to train and I was up here rehearsing so we'd hardly ever see each other and it was just too hard. I'm the sort of person who'd prefer it to be all or nothing, so we split up last month."

But they parted on good terms and Gemma tells me that Marcus will be supporting her in the Soapstar Superstar studio audience at the weekend.

And though newly single, Gemma says she's unlikely to get together with any of her soapstar contestants - like last year's lovebirds Richard Fleeshman and Roxanne Pallett.

"I like my men to be tall, dark and handsome, but all the single blokes here seem to be blonde," she sighs.
