WHEEL nuts are snapping up British Grand Prix tickets in record time – thanks to the Lewis and Gemma effect.
Insiders say next month’s Silverstone event is almost sold out after young race ace Lewis Hamilton’s amazing debut.
And ex-Hollyoaks beauty Gemma Atkinson has got pulses racing after becoming the July 8 event’s official mascot.
Fans hope McLaren star Lewis, 22, will repeat his victories at his last two races in Montreal and Indianapolis to become the first British winner since David Coulthard in 2000.
A source said: “Not too long ago people were talking about F1 losing its fans during Michael Schumacher’s domination.
“But Lewis has been a fresh of breath air. Not only is he one of the most exciting new talents around in any sport but he’s young and great-looking too. Young men want to be him and girls want to be with him. It’s not surprising demand for tickets for Silverstone is higher than ever.
“Signing up Gemma as the mascot was a masterstroke. The sport is suddenly sexier than ever.
“With Gemma at the circuit, there will be another set of curves to admire.
“You could say she and Lewis make the perfect winning formula.”
Motor-mad Gemma, 22, who helped her late father David build kit cars, said: “I can’t wait to wish all the Brits good luck in person.”
It is unlikely that boyfriend Cristiano Ronaldo will be with her because of pre-season commitments with Man United.
A pal said: “It looks like Gemma will be alone with all those millionaire drivers.
“I bet he’s steaming.”
